On Oct 9-11, the Troop and Crew went canoeing on the Guadalupe river at Kerrville.  We canoed 4 miles and learned canoeing skills for the canoeing merit badge.

We adjusted our cooking plan to Dutch ovens and enjoyed monkey bread on Saturday. More photos in the photo album.

Survival Campout at Camp Alzafar

Posted on Oct 16 2020 - 2:01pm

Troop 512 Scouts headed to Alzafar Shrine Camp the weekend of September 11-13 to practice their wilderness survival skills. The Scouts slept in shelters they prepared from poles, twine, and tarps.  They cooked their meals on coals from fires they created with flint and steal and practiced fishing with line, hooks, and bait they found on the land.  After, they took some time out from their hard work and cooled off in the cool river waters. We enjoyed banana smores in tin foil cooking as dessert.

Summer Camp at Bear Creek

Posted on Jun 30 2020 - 11:49am

The scouts have endured the cancelation of summer camp at Lost Pines but were able to attend Camp at Bear Creek.  They continue the tradition of showing off their knots and lashings by putting up the troop camp entrance sign.

Bracken Bat Cave

Posted on May 25 2020 - 9:37am

We had a great turn out for the Conservation Project at the Bracken Bat Cave on May 23rd with 32 scouts and adults attending.  We assisted them in cleaning up the trails and viewing areas which are used for viewing the  bats and bird watching tours.  After the work was done we enjoyed super-sized hot dogs, chips, cookies and ice cream.  Then went to view the miliions of bats come out of the cave.  It takes 3 hours for all of them to come out, so we stayed an hour to watch them go out to feed at the coast on moths. Additional photos are in the photo album.
